Response Depth Modes
Every chat has a Response depth selector next to the message box (it defaults to Balanced). It controls how much work AskDiana does before it answers:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Swift | Low latency, direct answers. Best for quick lookups where you already know roughly what the answer will say. |
| Balanced | The default — a reasonable trade-off between depth and speed for most questions. |
| Deep | Higher confidence bar. AskDiana checks itself harder before answering — slower, but more reliable on ambiguous questions. |
| Research | Maximum breadth and follow-ups. Pulls in the widest possible set of sources and cross-references across them. This is where AskDiana's ability to connect scattered documents actually shows up. |
Why this matters
Response depth changes how hard AskDiana works — it doesn't invent sources that aren't there. Even on Research mode, a question against a single uploaded document will mostly reflect that document, because there's nothing else to cross-reference against. Depth and breadth of your knowledge base matter as much as the mode you pick — see Get Better, Deeper Answers.
